Twenty-five years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, photographer Gerd Ludwig returned to the city to document the land’s current state of contamination and explore the long-lasting residual effects. Ludwig used Kickstarter to fund the trip, as well as the distribution of the resulting body of work. That was over a year ago. Since then, Ludwig has been consistently in touch with backers, sharing project developments, behind-the-scenes photos, and other news. Yesterday, he announced the opening of an exhibition of more than 50 of his photographs at the Kunsthaus in Nuremberg, Germany. Each of his backers’ names will appear on a special info board at the entrance — just one way to say “danke schoen.”
