Photographers Michael A. Smith and Paula Chamlee are a rare duo. Both critically acclaimed artists in their own rights, they’ve nevertheless spent more than three decades traveling across the United States and around the world as a married couple, making new work of similar subjects with two entirely distinct points of view.
Michael Caporale, a cinematographer and filmmaker, first fell for their work when Smith and Chamlee were newlyweds, and has continued to admire and collect their photographs ever since.
Now he’s launching a Kickstarter project for an IMAX digital film of the duo’s upcoming expedition to Iceland. Caporale hopes to capture their unique working methods, innovative use of view cameras, and differing approaches to similar environments in a particularly awe-inspiring and challenging landscape.
