At the beginning of 2012, ElevationDock became the most popular Kickstarter project to date, raising over $1 million.

More than 2.2 million backers supported Kickstarter projects last year at a frenetic pace. With nearly $320 million pledged in 2012, backers averaged a total of $606.76 pledged per minute.

What the future holds.
The Walker Art Center asked artist and futurist Julian Bleecker to offer up his top 10 developments of 2012 and Kickstarter popped up at #1.
A year ago it may have been an overstatement to say there’s been a renaissance of earnest pleas for funding personal projects, with Kickstarter being the canonical broker of such things… I’d say this is a recognizable achievement for the capitalization of weird ideas…. It’s not at all like shopping.
