This Saturday, in conjunction with the first Project Jams, we’ll be hosting meetups in 5 different cities. If you’re free Saturday Night (5/18), we’d love for you to join us!
We’re at the inaugural LA Art Book Fair this week, celebrating the world of art-in-print on Kickstarter.
More than two dozen Kickstarter-funded projects are represented, encompassing everything from Paul Mpagi Sepuya’s major monograph, STUDIO WORK, to cartoonist Will Laren’s $7 zine, Slurricane #3.
In LA? Drop by MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary space and check out some printed matter in person, now through Sunday.
Stones Throw is a Los Angeles-based record label responsible for more than a few classic albums over the past 15 years. The brainchild of DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, Stones Throw reflects a vinyl collector’s encyclopedic musical knowledge and a party starter’s ear for a dope beat.
Produced by repeat Kickstarter creator Jeff Broadway, Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton is a feature-length documentary that tells the story of a scrappy label’s myriad struggles and long-term success. Check out some long-lost swag from the Stones Throw vault and let the beat build — this heavy music doc is our Project of the Day.
Filmmaker Dylan Stern just successfully funded his short film, Simon, on Kickstarter. The first $10,000 seemed to come pretty smoothly, but he knew he couldn’t rest on his laurels — especially when he was still $500 short with just 24 hours to go.
So Stern took to the streets of LA to race for the final funds — and his hard (and wet) work paid off.
If the LA Game Space is anything like this .gif, I think we can all agree it will be very awesome.
The creators are planning a nonprofit, interdisciplinary center for art, design, and research in the heart of LA. Backers can help found this new hub for indie games and take home 30 new games for just 15 bucks.
We’re happy to catch sight of LA Game Space popping up across the web. More than just a one-off project, the creators hope to develop an interdisciplinary venue for design, research, and play in the heart of Los Angeles’ arts district.
Ambitious yet exciting project looking for funding - a creative gaming Bauhaus to educate, develop and push the video game into a forward thinking artform:
Game design has always featured creativity and experimentation, from the earliest pioneers to the recent rise of independent creators. And yet, we have barely begun to explore the potential of video games.
Let’s create a place for exploring that potential. A place for game innovation, education, and exhibition, where all of us can play and make and study and showcase games. A place where we will rediscover what games have been, and re-imagine what games can be.
Join us in founding LA Game Space!

The latest trailer from filmmaker Jennifer Fox for her feature documentary (and wild $150k-raising KSR success), My Reincarnation. The film hits NYC theaters on October 28 @ Cinema Village and in Los Angeles @ Laemmle Monica, with a national roll-out to follow.
“My Reincarnation chronicles the epic story of the high Tibetan Buddhist Master, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, and his western-born son, Yeshi. It follows Namkhai Norbu’s rise to greatness as a Buddhist teacher in the West, while his son, Yeshi, recognized at birth as the reincarnation of a famous spiritual master, breaks away from his father’s tradition to embrace the modern world. Can the father convince his son to keep the family’s threatened spiritual legacy alive? Never before has a high Tibetan Master allowed such complete access to his private life and it is doubtful that another ever will…a universal story about love, transformation, and destiny.”
