White House home movies.
Our Nixon documents the president’s rise and fall through home movies shot by three of Nixon’s closest aides. Forgotten for nearly 40 years, these Super 8 films offer a unique look at life inside the White House.

Each screening was truly special and charged with incredible energy, but two wonderful things happened at our final screening. First,the head of SXSW, Janet Pierson, was in attendance and introduced the film - a highlight of my career and a sign that the film was at SXSW because she and her team truly believed in it and championed it as a work of cinematic art. Second, and even more important, was that a woman named Kathleen Powers came to the screening. Huh? Who’s she? Folks, she’s a BELIEVER, just like the rest of us. She contributed to our KICKSTARTER campaign and showed up in Austin, waited in line, took a seat, and watched the screen in anticipation as the theater went dark. She introduced herself to me after the screening and Q&A and I was thrilled to meet her and even more thrilled that she loved the film (phew) and was so proud of being a part of it.

Tonight! Blue Like Jazz ,the most-funded film in Kickstarter history (!!!), is set to have its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. (It’s one of 33 Kickstarter-funded films to be showing there.) Follow along with them tonight as they post pictures and news from the event, but if you’re one of the lucky ones that happen to be in town, stop by Paramount Theater at 6:45PM. It’s almost as if Tumblr read our minds. Of course, we agree wholeheartedly, so much so that we actually held a screening of these films, and a few more, as a preview for SXSW. Check it out!
We’re also very excited to see festival entries of three films on Tumblr: Gayby, Gimme The Loot, and Girl Walk // All Day. And of course we’ll be posting updates throughout to the #sxsw tag — feel free to do the same.
Attn SXSW! If you are going to do one thing during the week, you might want to treat yourself to a sneak peak of Daniel Johnston’s Space Ducks, the interactive comic he ran a project for last year. Space Ducks looks amazing, and the fact that Daniel, fellow Kickstarter alum R. Stevie Moore, Built to Spill AND special guests will be participating is also amazing. Who knew we’d be so excited about Space Ducks?!?!?
Trash Dance started in 2009 when Allison Orr choreographed the biggest dance of her life: a trash truck ballet featuring 24 sanitation employees and 16 vehicles. Three years later, the feature length documentary about the performance is set to debut at SXSW! We’ve been lucky enough to watch this project evolve in front of our eyes and couldn’t be more excited for its world premiere, and justly, it is our Project of the Day!
Heading to SXSW?! Be sure to hit up Pavilion’s after party, which will feature a performance by Sam Prekop, the talented composer of the film’s score, who also happens to play in a little band called The Sea & Cake, so you know it’ll be awesome.
